Adidas NMD Launch @ Pavilion | Struggles

June 10, 2016

first of all this was my first sneaker release event so if any of these points seem out of hand or salty, sorry but points should be made across

The NMD R1 OG in white, probably one of the most hyped shoe in 2016. For my curiosity, I tried to find the meaning of NMD yet couldn't find it but it probably for me meant " not my day ". Here's my story...

Started off on a nice ride on the LRT, pretty chill nohal. Stopped at KLCC at had a long walk to Pavilion for the launch. As we arrived people were filling up every inch of the walkways on either side of the Adidas store. All for a pair of shoes. I should remind you that it was supposed to be a "register and cop" deal, just for your information. Alright back to the event, this is my first point that I'm addressing to Adidas Malaysia or any other big brand company out there that is having a big release.

  1.  PLAN AHEAD
When a shoe as hyped as say an NMD that's been sought after in the past few months is being released, maybe have a system to make sure lines are apparent so that there aren't any line cutters cause God knows you do nothing about them, especially when you can't see them in the sea of people.

Groups of who knows how many sneakerheads/hypebeasts will be formed right in front of other shops because there is no line system present. In spurts of every 10 minutes or so the guard (only one at the time) will shout at them like a dog barking at sheep. Veering them to disperse. Some would go back to there original spots, others would go and hangout in the bathroom right beside the shop, and a few would even go into Clinique right next to Adidas trying on lotion haha acah acah je.

this is what would happen when the suit guy started shouting. Everyone would disperse slowly to the back but xpexpe 5 seconds later they'll all go back to the same exact position they started. Fighting for the front row. It just became a cycle of back and forth foolerish shit.

INTERLUDE :
just a side note, is it necessary for a person attending this kind of event to wear such dope attire I mean damn these sneakerheads are coming in with thousands of ringgit worth of attire but hey if you look good why not an!

luka sabbat looking down on all of us like chill fam I got you

      2. NO LAST MINUTE CHANGE UPS

So supposedly, we were supposed to register for the shoes at 8pm and get the shoes the next morning, that was the deal. But once 8pm struck, one of the employees of the store announced that a raffle will be held instead reason being there were too many people. Just imagine waiting in line for hours on end and being told the shoes you were confirmed to get became a maybe. More pakguards came, even more blazer suit dudes and even a few policemen, it was lit.

simplified :

confirm dapat ----> maybe pula

So you had to get this piece of paper passed by employees and pakguards to fill in your IC, shoe size with colour and your name, that's it. Even that was a bust. All you had to do was provide us with a piece of paper (with a stamp of adidas on the back so no fraud) to fill and put into the raffle box yet you couldn't even provide that. In short, papers ran out.... all that waiting for nothing.

Things weren't even going farely I might add. What i witnessed, well I assume were wrongdoings by Adidas. Look at the picture above, we were all inline and a group was forming in the back. Yup, giving papers in the back without any notice. No announcement was made. If you weren't pushing everyone aside or was not even sure what was going on you were fucked.

~this was my first event and if this kind of fuck up happens often I swear
this "culture" is just a joke~

      3. BE FAIR, SIMPLE, NO RASUAH, NO BULLSHIT

nuff said

So whoever got there raffles in the box had them announced in the fountain area outside of Pavilion. Of course we didn't attend but had lunch and went to a movie. Really sad but it was an experience to learn from nonetheless.

But salute to those who had some nice kicks with really nice fits. Kind of made the experience more to be sought after.

Conclusion :

any shop retailer or franchise can learn from this because anything like this happening can really give a bad image to the brand/shop. Well at least it got me thinking a certain way.

  • plan in advance
  • customers aren't animals being barked at
         and

  • don't make this a representation of Malaysia in general, serabut.
